Title: Purchasing Manager

Manages the procurement of raw materials, energy, packaging and transportation requirements from vendors. Researches possible suppliers of all materials and services and manages RFP process throughout the negotiation. Evaluates vendor quotes and services to determine best value to company with cost, service, quality, reliability and relationship at the core. Develop and measure key performance indicators (KPI’s) for procurement.


  • Develop strategic business partnerships with vendors negotiating prices, quality, transportation, payment terms and conditions.
  • Develop energy plan with plants and finance to minimize exposure to operations and maintain cost competitive energy supplies. Identify risk and develop mitigation plan.
  • Evaluate vendor quotes and supplier scorecard performance for new awards.
  • Order materials, transportation or commodities based on needs of manufacturing.
  • Maintains communications externally with vendors and internally with manufacturing, sales and logistics to predict and optimize supply chain.
  • Manage contracts, track freight, monitor inventory, ensure discounts or rebates are achieved.
  • Set up blanket purchase orders and establish reports to monitor plant purchases to ensure national contracts are leveraged.
  • Manage annual budgeting process with plant requirements and negotiated pricing for materials and energy.
  • Manage inventory balances at plant level and any claims, shrink or quality issues that arise from suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement to reduce costs, standardize procurement procedures and processes with plant, finance, sales, supply chain etc.
  • Track and measure key organizational/functional metrics to reduce costs and improve effectiveness. 


  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of experience in procurement or supply chain.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within procurement.
  • Work independently and able to communicate effectively by phone, in writing and in person with peers and all levels of management and outside vendors.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and decision making skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and influence management skills to interact with cross-functional team members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
